CAMPAIGNERS aiming to educate the Asian community about the dangers of smoking and chewing tobacco, will be holding a half-day conference at the Jans Conference Centre, in Higher Audley Street, Blackburn, on Wednesday.
The event is in support of the South Asian Tobacco Campaign, a national campaign aimed at encouraging ethnic minority people to cut down their use of tobacco and will be chaired by Abdul Piracha, chairman of the local ethnic minority health and social care forum.
It has been organised by the specialist smoking cessation service for Blackburn with Darwen, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley.
There will also be speakers from the specialist smoking cessation service and health promotion specialists working with ethnic minority communities and workshops on the use of Paan chewing tobacco, trading standards issues and getting fit.
The event, which runs from noon until 4pm, starts with a Halal lunch.
