TWO public events have been organised by Pendle Council to promote greater use of a Nelson park.
The council's parks, cemeteries and outdoor recreation department has arranged the events in Victoria Park, off Carr Road, for this weekend.
A free hour-long guided stroll, called Wildlife in Winter, will take place on Saturday, February 23, setting off from the pavilion in Carr Road at 1.30pm.
It will be led by park ranger David Proctor.
It will include information about the park's history, wildlife, flora and fauna.
An 'Adopt a Bird Box' event will be held from 1.30pm on Sunday, when people can pay a small fee to adopt a bird box to help the park's bird population.
'Adopters' will be given a certificate and the location of the bird box.
Fred Stewart, the council's parks outreach officer, said: "Victoria Park is a wonderful example of the beautiful public parks in the borough.
"We want to encourage more people to use these parks and enjoy them.
"There is so much to learn about wildlife, flora, fauna, and history at Victoria Park that it's a perfect way to relax for an hour on a Saturday.
"Adopting a bird box is an equally worthwhile activity - after all, the birds add to the character and enjoyment of the park."
