POLICE have launched a murder investigation after a Whitefield man was gunned down.
McMurray Chinadu Iheagwara (34) died on arrival at North Manchester General Hospital on Friday (Feb 15). He had suffered a number of gunshot wounds to his body.
Mr Iheagwara's family are being comforted at home in Lancaster Avenue, Whitefield. They declined to talk about his death.
Police cordoned off Bettwood Drive, off Middleton Road, Crumpsall, after the shooting at 2.40pm on Friday.
According to residents, Mr Iheagwara was discovered in one of the houses in the cul-de-sac. He was brought out on a stretcher with a drip attached.
A dark coloured Honda Accord, two other vehicles and several items from the murder scene were taken away for forensic examination.
Police have yet to release any further details about the shooting.
A 40-year-old man from the Crumpsall area has been questioned by detectives in connection with the death of Mr Iheagwara. He has been released on police bail pending further investigations.
A murder incident room has been set up at Collyhurst Police Station and witnesses are being urged to ring 856 3940.
