ONLY days ago, Labour met its pledge to recruit 20,000 extra nurses and midwives by 2004 two years early. During the election last year, the Tories said the pledge was 'preposterous' and could not be done. The Tories always talk down the NHS.
In an interview on BBC News 24 last May, Shadow health secretary Dr Laim Fox, said: "Well, it really is a preposterous position for the Labour Party to have on the nursing numbers. Where are all these doctors and nurses going to come from? The Labour Party simply thinks up numbers for slogans, irrespective of the reality of the situation."
The Tories are embarrassed that Labour has achieved what they never even attempted to do.
