HYNDBURN Athletics Club won the third and final event in the Lancashire Sports Hall Athletics Championship to pip Preston to second place in the overall league standings.
It was a wonderful team performance from the club who competed superbly in the competition for boys and girls at under 11s, 13s and 15s.
At the end of the day, Hyndburn took top spot in the girls event and finished runners-up in the boys to come out on top on the day at Hyndburn Sport Centre.
Olivia Brierley at under 11s and Sophie Hart in the under 13s were named athletes of the match. In the boys event, Matthew Gough won the athlete of the match award for the under 11s age group.
Now athletes from across East Lancashire are waiting to find out if they will be selected for the Lancashire team for an inter county competition next month.
Hyndburn girls dominated the event finishing 41 points ahead of their closest rivals Blackpool and Fylde AC who were the eventual overall winners.
In the under 11s, Hyndburn finished in second and third place with Olivia Brierley and Sarah Jones picking up the points respectively.
Olivia won both the two lap and four lap races and came fourth in the foam javelin event.Sarah was third in the one lap race and third in the foam javelin competition.
Also in the foam javelin, Chorley's Laura Jane Halton did well to finish in second place.
In the under 13s, Hyndburn took the top three places.
Heather Donald was first ahead of Amy Leeming and Sophie Hart.
Heather won both the long jump and vertical jump and finished runner-up in the triple jump and four lap race.
Amy won the six lap race and finished second in the two lap race and triple jump. Sophie came first in the two lap race.
Preston and Blackpool dominated the under 15s event taking the top three positions with Caroline Smithson (4th) and Charlotte Baron (5th) Hyndburn's best competitors.
In the boys competition, athlete of the match Matthew Gough took top spot in the under 11s with 21 points with an exceptional performance winning all three of his events, the one, two and four lap races.
In the under 13s, Damian Rawcliffe finished in second place thanks to winning the four and six laps competitions.
Peter Matthews of Blackburn took third spot after finishing second in the two and six lap races and was third in the long jump.
In the under 15s, Hyndburn's John Bruce finishing in sixth place while Pendle's Jason Lucas was seventh.
For Chorley Harriers, John Fairhurst and Matthew Bury were placed equal fourth in the under 11s speed bounce.
In the U11 girls, Laura Halton was second in the Javelin, while Nichola Barker was fifth in the ball throw, and sixth in the speed bounce.
And in the under 15s Girls, Laura Livesey was third in the shot, and fourth in the vertical jump.
Local clubs won a number of athletes of the match awards.
In Match One, Robbie Schofield of Pendle and Callum Fitzpatrick of Hyndburn picked up the awards. Hyndburn pair Sarah Jones and Charlotte Baron picked up the honours as did Clitheroe Grammar School's Heather McDonald. And in match two, Amy Leeming of Habergham High and Anna Griffiths of Hyndburn were handed the awards.
