SINCE the news that local musician John Anthony was responsible for composing a piece of music from the Disney film Monsters Inc, his schedule has been simply . . . MONSTROUS.
As reported in last week's Bury Times, John (60) hit the headlines when it was revealed he was entitled to substantial royalty payments after a tune he penned almost 30 years ago had been used in the film The Full Monty.
It wasn't until his wife Jean saw the film on video that she recognised the music, Time For Romance, as John's creation.
The Whitefield guitarist was then told the instrumental piece would be used in the just-released cartoon blockbuster Monsters Inc.
Media interest in John's tale has been huge and since the news broke early last week he has been interviewed for Radio Sheffield, where The Full Monty was filmed, BBC Radio Scotland and even Radio Two in the Netherlands!
Every day last week saw John being interviewed for a different programme and he was filmed for Granada Reports, GMTV and Sky TV news, which was to be broadcast worldwide to 80 million viewers.
John's whirlwind schedule will finally come to a close tomorrow (Sat Feb 16) when he appears on GMR in Alan Beswick's morning show from 7am to 9am. John's interview will go out at 8.50am. He said: "I realise that this is not going to last and by next week it will all be quiet again. It has been a very hectic week and since last Tuesday it has just snowballed."
Despite being at the beck and call of the media, John has managed to keep his feet on the ground and still kept his regular engagement to play at the Holiday Inn in Lancaster at the weekend!
