Digital Cable company Omne is to continue cabling work in Morecambe and Lancaster on March 6.

The work is part of Omne's programme to build the UK's most advanced broadband cable network in Lancashire, bringing interactive digital TV, telephone services and high speed internet access to homes and businesses throughout the region.

Construction work will be staggered across the north and north east of the town from March 6.

It's expected to last for approximately six weeks in each area but individual streets will be completed in a matter of days.

Omne is liaising closely with Lancaster City Council and has pledged to keep disruption to a minimum.

Areas covered by the construction work will be: along the coastal road between Morecambe and Carnforth and the A6 Ridge (East of Carton Road) from Morecambe Road, Lancaster Road and Broadway heading north to Fairhope Avenue.

Leaflets explaining the build programme will be distributed to all properties in the area concerned over the coming weeks.

In addition, all households will again be notified two days prior to work beginning.

Michaela Hunt of Omne said: "Before we begin any work, we give 28 days notice to the council.

In addition, residents and businesses are notified two weeks and 48 hours in advance of work commencing.

"Omne is building the UK's most advanced broadband cable network, which will deliver the latest technology to parts of the UK that have so far been underserved.

This inevitably means there will be digging but we are taking a series of measures to minimise inconvenience.

"For example, the trench size is the width of an A4 sheet of paper with most work being carried out between 8.00am - 5.00pm Monday to Friday."
