FRED Longworth pupil and top swimmer Khalid Jhugroo has been chosen to carry the Queen's Jubilee Baton at the opening of the Commonwealth Games.
Khalid, who is deputy head boy at the Tyldesley school, will be one of the Sport England runners carrying the baton on the way to the opening ceremony in Manchester. He will carry it on July 24 -- day 49 of its 50 day journey around Britain.
The Queen will read the message enclosed in the baton as she officially opens the games.
A spokesman for the school said: "We are very proud of Khalid. It is a great honour to have one of our students chosen to be part of a once-in-a-lifetime event such as the games."
