I AM writing in response to the recent outcry against the National Health Service.
It fills me with both anger and disgust that people decry what has been, and I believe will continue to be, one of the cornerstones of our national institutions. I am filled with admiration for the care and dedication shown by the staff in our hospitals.
I have recently had to attend hospital on several occasions and at all times have been treated with politeness, consideration and patience by professionally committed nurses, doctors and hospital administrators.
The health service faces great challenges to overcome the legacy of under-funding and to change the way it operates in order to bring it in line with 21st century demands. But I think we should all support our staff in the NHS and understand that they are trying to do the best job they can in what are very difficult times.
