GIVEN the two clubs' respective league positions, a draw at Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday night would have been a reasonable result for the Seasiders.
But even their small band of travelling supporters could hardly have expected a 4-1 victory!
And that scoreline included two goals from Richard Walker who had a loan spell with Wycombe before Christmas.
Steve McMahon decided to play three strikers -- Walker, Scott Taylor and John Murphy -- and all three got on the scoresheet.
Rain and strong winds made conditions difficult but that didn't deter Blackpool who went one up after only 19 minutes, rather against the run of play. Taylor was set up on the right, when Walker and Murphy combined, and his shot went in courtesty of a deflection.
And suddenly it was 2-0 when, five minutes later, Murphy challenged the Wycombe keeper for a John Hills cross. Under pressure the keeper didn't get the ball clear and Walker headed it home.
Taylor went close on two other occasions and good defending ensured it was still 2-0 at the interval.
It got better two minutes after the restart when Reid fired in a shot from a Hills corner. It was blocked but Walker hammered the rebound into the net.
The Seasiders never looked in trouble from then until nine minutes from the final whistle when Wycombe substitute McSporran scored a consolation goal.
But there was one more bit of joy to come for Blackpool fans. In the 86th minute Walker shot from 18 yards, the ball stuck in a puddle and Murphy stepped in to complete Wycombe's misery.
The win took Blackpool 11 points clear of the relegation zone and set them up for Saturday's home game against Huddersfield, when fans will be able to sit in the new stands for the first time. The kick-off, incidentally, will be at the earlier time of 1pm.
