PHIL Collins continues to ride the Friday and Monday meetings at the Velodrome.
At last Friday's meeting he was third in three races -- the 20 lap scratch, 20 lap points and the Devil. His recent good placings and those of Bob Duckworth were not maintained at last Monday's meeting. The duo were in contention in each event they rode, but their efforts only resulted in Phil scoring on one lap of the points race and Bob taking a lap in the Course des Primes and finishing in second place on the final lap. Bob successfully completed the shorter of the West Pennine Road clubs Audax events last Saturday, whilst Frank Jefferson and Ernie Roughley took the direct route to Gisburn so that they could enjoy meeting up with cyclists from other clubs. As club captain, Frank was out again on Sunday leading the ride to Hollingworth Lake and then on to Todmorden. Those members who ordered RTTC handbooks can now collect them from Frank.
TANDEM RIDING
CLUB FOR THE
VISUALLY
HANDICAPPED
A fine day last Sunday was enjoyed by five tandem pairs and two solo riders who were out on the club-run to Hollingworth Lake. The Rawtenstall/Bacup route was taken to make a round trip of around thirty five miles. Both of our recently joined front riders, Sean Davidson and Phil Johnson were out. Sean was steering Carl Berry who rarely misses a club-run and Phil was steering John Robinson. Alas there was no steerspersons available to take out our other regular lady rider Janine Pritchard. Next Sunday's ride is to Rivington. Meet Tottington HQ at 9.15am.
WEST PENNINE
ROAD CLUB
Event secretary Noel Healy will be pleased with his organisation of the club's annual Audax events last Saturday. Sixty two riders entered the 120 kilometre events and sixth three of the 200 kilometre event. Out of all these riders only two failed to finish, and surprisingly these were participants in the shorter event. Bury riders successfully completing the shorter event from Rochdale up to Gisburn and back were John Bunting, Bob Duckworth and Ken Allen. Michael Bland and Derek Pritchard successfully completed the 200 kilkometre event which continues from Gisburn onto Settle, Ingleborough and Lancaster before returning to Rochdale.
