FOURTH match in the Bury Societies Winter league series took place on Parkins Lodge on Sunday.
The start of the match was slightly delayed due to one of the competitors being involved in a car smash caused by diesel spillage on the way to the match.
In this modern age, mobile phones play an important part in quick communication and the match organiser was able to delay the match to accommodate the person involved.
The weigh-in was marred by heavy rain. Daz Shaw fishing the stillage on the point took top weight with 7-5-0 including two quality bream in the last half-hour backed up with skimmers taken on the tip.
Junior member Danny Moore, fishing the stream-side, had three similar quality bream backed up with skimmers for second place 4-14-0. Unfortunately, he has not entered the league.
Dave Jowett, despite aches and stiffness as a result of a car smash, took third place with 4-1-8 and fourth Garry Wright fishing the hen pens, 3-10-0. Fifth was Jonathan Jowett with 2-12-4.
It has reached four matches in the six match series in which the best of four results on a points basis decides the winner.
Dave Jowett (Junior) leads the league with 10 points. In second place Daz Shaw with 13 points, third is Jonathan Jowett with 19 points and fourth is Garry Weight with 20 points. The competition is still wide open with two matches to go.
On Tuesday, in extremely wet conditions, a depleted field fished the national team open on the Island Lodge at Tottington. D Jowett fishing the tip tied with Paul White fishing the pole with 4-8-0 and third was John Fluck 3-10-0.
The previous week on the same venue Fluck took top weight 5-4-0 and in second place was Stephen Gent 4-12-0.
On Saturday in the Browning Cudmore match, top weight fell to R Williamson (Fishermans Tackle) 62-12-0. In second place was S Naylor (Nathans Derley) 54-1-0 and third was D Bickerton (Daiwa Trentman) 49-14-0.
On the day Shaw and Jowett took second pairs place with 11 points, and after ten matches still head the league.
Shaw and Jowett 21 points.
In second place and closing in is Machin and Moore with 27 points. In third place, Clark and Wild with 28.
In the Pilsworth Fisheries Open fished by 245 anglers on the Carp lakes. Top weight was Wyatt (18-12-0), second Scott (18-1-0) and third Dean (11-6-0).
Bury Society Senior Section
Over the past weekend, the clubs baliffs have experienced problems with anglers fishing the clubs waters without current permits. The committee feel strongly about this and the baliffs will be carrying out future spot checks to eliminate.
Tickets are now on sale for the Bury Societies Annual Presentation Evening to be held at Elton Liberal Club on Friday March 1 at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from Fishermans Way at £5. Supper , disco and artist planned.
The following senior and junior members have won trophies in the past season - Seniors - Gough, Jowett, Buckley, Booth, Shaw, Krupnyekys, Foodyher, Crook, Goodlad, Frost, Hogan, Smith, Bradly, Jowett (Jnr) and Lightbrown. Juniors - Krupnyekys, Chadwick, Gough.
The fifth winter league match takes place on the Island Lodge on 3rd March. Draw at 9am and fish at 10am until 3pm.
The February Monthly meeting of the club takes place on February 25 at Elton Liberal Club at 7.30pm.
