LUCKY dog Ben is back in the lap of luxury after a brush with death on the motorway.
The long-haired cross German shepherd was found injured last month on the southbound verge of the M66 motorway, just ahead of the Junction 4 slip road at Simister. Police sealed off the carriageway allowing dog wardens to rescue Ben, who had apparently been hit by a vehicle. He was treated at a Whitefield veterinary surgery for a broken pelvis and damaged foreleg nerve.
Ben is now back at home at Marston Close, Whitefield, being spoiled by his owners. The family say his ill-fated adventure began when he ran away to chase a cat.
Dog warden Janet Rix said: "They were over the moon to have him back and I've never seen a dog so well looked after.
"He had with a lovely duvet and soft toys and was obviously happy to be home."
