A BURY woman who celebrated her 100th birthday in the first month of the new millennium has died.
Esther Deakin passed away peacefully at the Bank House Nursing Home in Brandlesholme Road earlier this month at the age of 102.
The home's oldest resident, she had lived at Bank House since November 1999.
Mrs Deakin was born in Salford in January, 1900 and grew up with her parents and three brothers.
She married her husband Samuel at the age of 19 and spent six years in Burma where her husband was stationed with the Army.
Mrs Deakin had two of her six children abroad with the remainder being born after the couple returned to England.
She moved to Bury in 1955 after the death of her husband to be near her son, Fred, who was already living in the area.
Mrs Deakin worked for most of her life doing odd jobs and spent the rest of her time caring for her children. She was devoted to her family.
The funeral took place at Rochdale Crematorium.
