THE rail enthusiast who wants to restore the old Bolton to Bury line into Radcliffe has announced an even more ambitious proposal.
Mr Steve Parker, founder of the Bolton Derelict Railway Preservation Society, wants to include the scheme in part of a much larger "Irwell Valley Experience" project.
"It would be an open-air linear heritage park, radiating from Darcy Lever passing through Bradley Fold in Radcliffe and culminating at Bury.
"It occupies a dramatic setting in the Croal Irwell Valley and would become a brand new regional visitor experience aimed at a good family day out and providing an educational experience for schools within the north west."
Among other things, Mr Parker (31), of Melrose Road, Little Lever, envisages recreating station buildings at the former Black Lane Station in Radcliffe and restoring the platforms.
He also suggests a heritage centre and gift shop at Ainsworth Road halt where a tearoom would also be created.
If you have any comments or ideas about raising funds for the Society, you can write to Mr Parker at 20 Melrose Road, Little Lever, Bolton, BL3 1EH.
