PLANS have been unveiled for a new multi-million pound car dealership headquarters in Bury.

Dixon Motors is only two months away from laying the foundations for its North Manchester base on land at Crostons Road in Brandlesholme.

The two-storey development will feature an open plan salesroom and and workshop together with a separate car clinic.

Up to 100 new jobs will be created and the entire complex will cost in excess of £6.5 million, including £150,000 to provide a new road layout at the junction of Crostons Road and Tottington Road.

Although still subject to final approval by Bury Council's planning committee the dealership is expected to be open by August.

Group property manager Richard Burns told the Bury Times: "This is a very exciting venture for Dixon and part of a £20 million investment programme around the country.

"We aim to provide the best standards of car dealership and Bury will spearhead our growth in the North Manchester area."

In June of last year it was feared that Bury would lose out on the development after a slump in the new and used car trade prompted Dixon to abandon the Crostons Road project.

However, future car sales predictions has prompted the Doncaster-based company to proceed with the original scheme. The revised planning proposals are expected to be approved in March.

Mr Burns said: "The Crostons Road facilities will replace our existing Bury franchise in Derby Street and it will only enhance Bury's growing economy."

The project also includes provision for another car dealership on the site.
