TRADITION and new technology are coming together to underline the services and vacancies open to Bury jobseekers.
Advisers were out in the town on Tuesday (Feb 19) and will do so again today (Fri Feb 22) to spread the word.
The good news for Bury people looking for work is that advances in technology means that JobCentres are now providing more flexible access to vacancies than ever.
All 500,000 vacancies and training opportunities held by every JobCentre in Britain is now on a single information bank.
Accessible by telephone, Internet, or by using electronic points in JobCentres, all temporary, permanent, full and part time, local, national and international jobs are all available.
Employment Service Direct is a telephone job inquiry service where advisers match callers to a vacancy, put them in touch with employers, or arrange interviews.
In Bury and Bolton, an average of 100 people each month are finding work through the service.
And the number of callers and telephone advisers has doubled in the past 12 months.
Many Bury jobseekers are also searching for vacancies on the Internet and then contacting Employment Service Direct by phone.
Employment Service Direct can be contacted on 0845 6060234. Lines are open 9am-6pm weekdays, and 9am-1pm on Saturdays.
Bury JobCentre staff will be promoting these services in the town's Mill Gate centre today between 10am and 4pm.
