FRIENDS of the Earth are happy that Burnley people will have the opportunity to see and discuss the Local Plan, for this is the only chance to influence future development in Burnley for the next 10 years.
Will your area be safe from new development?
Will your favourite woodland be cut down?
Where will new houses be built? People in Burnley have only six weeks to influence the plan.
However, we at Friends of the Earth are concerned that the only meeting we have so far heard of is the training day, run by the Sustainability Action partnership, on Thursday
at the East Lancs Voluntary Sector Resource Centre (formerly the water offices) in Yorkshire Street, at 9.30am. To attend, you need to contact Kim or Liz on 01282 704605.
The time of this meeting means that many people will be at work and have no opportunity to attend.
We believe it is vital that there should be more of an opportunity for people to learn about the plan, how it may affect them and, more importantly, how to have their say.
Should readers wish to see it, the plan is available at the Council Offices in Parker Lane, both Town Halls and at Burnley Central and Padiham Libraries.
