BOBBY Haig's men created the impact they had hoped for in this season's first meeting with the Grimsby Buffaloes.

And they triumphed for the second time in 24 hours when they won the toughest of challenges away to Bradford.

Not knowing what to expect, the Hawks were geared up for Grimsby's arrival at the Arena on Saturday and well prepared to battle for the two points, but at 4-0 up after the first ten minutes it was clear the home side were the stronger of the two.

Blackburn dominated the game and the score at 13-0 by the end of the second period, Grimsby were left with a mountain to climb. But the Buffaloes' two consolation goals were no match to the Hawks' next eight giving them a well-deserved 19-2 ENH League win.

"It was a fantastic night, the lads played really well," said the Hawks' player/coach Bobby Haig. "We were looking to get the three points anyway, but never expected such a huge scoreline. It's a great confidence booster!"

Blackburn's goalscorers were Adam Leaver (2), Gordon Whyte (2), Craig Sharman (3), Lance Darbyshire, Michael Brunton (3), Jamie Thompson (2), Scott Barnett (2), Bobby Haig (3) and Jason Fitton.

Sunday saw tougher opposition for the Hawks as they travelled to face Bradford.

"Bradford gave us a very good game and we were 1-0 down after ten minutes. Luckily we managed to pull ourselves together and get six goals, but Bradford certainly didn't make it easy for us.

"The main thing is that we've got the four points."

This weekend the Hawks face their remaining two English National Hockey League games - away to the Grimsby Buffaloes tonight before facing the Birmingham Rockets at the Arena

tomorrow.

"We've given Grimsby the fright they needed, but we still have to worry about the fact that they have such a small ice rink," said Bobby. "When that is the case the games can be quite brutal so we'll have to be at our best.

"Birmingham shouldn't really pose a threat to us, we beaten them three times already this season. I just hope we can get four more points and finish an otherwise disappointing season on a high." The Arena doors open at 5.15pm on Sunday for the 6pm face off against the Birmingham Rockets.
