FORMER Rovers boss Roy Hodgson was delighted to see his old club lift the Cup - but remembered the man who paved the way for it all to happen.

"Blackburn are so much in Jack Walker's debt," said Hodgson, remembering the Rovers benefactor who pumped millions of pounds into the club.

"He gave the town and club a magnificent stadium and training club and I am sure there will be many tributes made to him after the final and I would like to add my own to those."

And Hodgson was hoping that Rovers build on this silverware.

"If they play like they have today, there will have no problems surviving," said Hodgson.

"If they can produce that type of performance they will go on from that and build a team that will challenge for more honours.

And Hodgson, sacked by Udinese earlier this season, said: "It was a fantastic game with a lot of chances.

"Spurs' Les Ferdinand was one of the best players on the field but if it wasn't for Brad Friedel, he would have scored a hat-trick.

"Mark Hughes also had an inspirational game for Rovers.

"He got stronger and stronger as the game and Rovers were more together as a team and thoroughly deserved their victory."
