A DRIVER was car-jacked after he pulled up at traffic lights in his BMW at Astley last night.
The man had dropped off a friend in Peel Lane at about 9.40pm and was waiting at the junction of Higher Green Lane.
A robber wearing a balaclava opened the passenger door and attacked the driver, a second man opened the driver's door and a third grabbed the keys.
The terrified driver managed to get out of the vehicle and call for help while the men drove off in the car.
Police are appealing for help in tracing the silver BMW 330 coupe, reg YY51 LEE.
Det Sgt Martin Reddington, of Leigh CID, said: "When driving ensure the doors are locked and all items of value, such as a mobile phone or handbag, are kept out of view.
"If you think your vehicle is being followed, try circling a roundabout to see if the other vehicle copies you. If you are genuinely concerned for your safety, drive to a safe and busy location, such as a police station."
Anyone who witnessed the vehicle theft or knows wherabouts of the car is asked to contact Leigh CID on 0161 856 7254 or Crimestoppers on freephone 0800 555 111.
