PENDLE Socialist Alliance group will tomorrow stage a public meeting in support of the rail workers' fight for better pay.
The meeting at Nelson Library will be addressed by rail union representatives from Skipton and Manchester who will explain why they are taking strike action.
They will also call for the renationalisation of the railways.
Pendle Socialist Alliance spokesman Steve Lax said: "The media are laying into the unions for organising these strikes but really they're responding to the chaos that everyone who uses the railways regularly can see for themselves.
"Trains are cancelled at the last minute, journeys take longer and, most worrying, there are continuing reports of poor maintenance."
He added: "This is not what you would expect in a country as wealthy as Britain, particularly when we all want to reduce the number of cars on the roads.
"We want people to hear the rail workers' voice and to learn what it's really like working on Britain's private railways."
Everyone is welcome to the meeting which starts at 7.30pm.
