A PROUD Blackburn Rovers fan took home more than just great memories from Sunday's Worthington cup final when he caught a flag thrown into the crowd by Andy Cole.

And Brian Jones, 50, of Stan Hill, Oswaldtwistle, really scored with pupils at Spring Hill Community Primary School, Accrington, where he works as site supervisor, when he took his precious souvenir in to show the youngsters.

The 6ft by 3ft flag with the Worthington Cup Winners 2002 logo is now set for a good washing to rid it of champagne fumes before it is put in safe keeping.

Brian travelled to Cardiff for the game with his son Daniel Jones, 32, of Altham while daughter Tracy Pogson, 26, watched on television from her home in Surrey.

Brian said: "I was thrilled when I caught the flag as it was just a matter of being in the right place at the right time. I thought 'That's mine, that is' when it was thrown. I thought I would never see the day when they lifted the cup as some people go a lifetime and don't get the chance.

"When I took it in to show the children at school there was a lot of interest from them too ,although the headteacher Stephanie Grimshaw was less impressed as she is a Burnley fan -- but she was still pleased for Blackburn really."
