A RAMSBOTTOM man who attacked his girlfriend and her mother was given an 18-month community rehabilitation order.

David Newton, of Victoria Street, pleaded guilty at court in Bury to two charges of assault and two of causing unlawful damage.

The court was told Newton spent an hour rampaging round his girlfriend Rachel Bardsley's home in Greenmount before she managed to sneak out to her parents' house with their weeks-old baby.

Fifteen minutes later he arrived at the house and blows were exchanged between Newton and Miss Bardsley's father.

He then attacked her mother and finally used his fists to smash six glass panels in a porch.

When Miss Bardsley and her mother left the house to return to her home, Newton arrived and there was a further altercation during which Miss Bardsley's mother was attacked again.

Philip Thompson, defending, said at the time of the incident Newton had been drinking and he had since voluntarily taken part in an anger management course.

Mr Thompson said: "Despite what has happened he hopes that he and his partner can be reconciled."

Newton must attend a course about domestic violence and was ordered to pay his victims £100 each and £70 to cover the damage to the porch.
