A LYTHAM student will soon be following in the footsteps of famous scientists such as Sir Isaac Newton by studying physics at Cambridge University.
Matthew Lakin, 17, (pictured) a sixth former at King Edward VII and Queen Mary School, has been offered a degree place at Queen's College, Cambridge, starting in October.
The youngster gained straight 'A' stars in all his nine GCSEs and is interested in astrophysics and the work of Cambridge professor Stephen Hawking.
Simon Smith, head of physics at the school, said: "Cambridge has produced some of the most influential scientists in British history and competition for places is very fierce.
"Matthew has combined a good deal of natural ability with sustained hard work and thoroughly deserves his success."
