ADAM Williamson will represent Lancashire in the national championships after beating Simon Blackburn in an all-Queens Park High School final.
The under 16s was the showcase event of the Lancashire Individual Championships and it didn't disappoint with Blackburn causing the shock of the event -- beating number one seed Taha Undre of QEGS in the semi final.
In a thrilling match, Blackburn upset the form books to beat Undre in an amazing five set match to book his place in the final. And their was more misery for the Undre family as Taha's brother Yusuf lost in the other semi final.
The all out top spin action of number two seed Williamso nwas too much for Yusuf who lost 3-0.
The final between between the Queen's Park pair was an exhibition of aggressive, attacking play but Williamson was again on top of his game and beat his close friend and team-mate in straigt sets.
Williamson will now represent Lancashire in the national finals in Fenton Manor in Stoke in April.
While the QEGS boys were obviously disappointed it was a credit to Blackburn that all four semi finalists came from the town.
And there was some joy for QEGS in the boys under 11s event.
For Chris McCraith and Jordan Clarke both contested the final and it was McCraith who came out on top.
Jason Yeung of QEGS also reached a final but Andrew Armstrong of Lancaster Royal Grammar School proved to be too good for him on the day.
In the under 19s event, Graham Wilson beat Ben Aldren in an all Ripley St Thomas, Lancaster affair.
Louise Proctor of Bowland High School, Clitheroe will also be going to the national finals after beating Louise Castle of Tulketh High School, Preston in the under 16s final.
The annual event attracted schools from across Lancashire including Preston, Lancaster, Morecambe and Carnforth.
Other East Lancashire schools that took part also included St Bedes and Beardwood from Blackburn and Accrington school Mount Carmel.
