I NOTE with considerable interest and concern the frenzied activity of the company involved in connecting us all to the world of 'digital communications', namely Omne.

This company' s spokesperson (Michaela Hunt) has, through your newspaper, this week (and I quote) 'pledged to keep disruption to a minimum' (Citizen, Thursday, Feb 21).

I appreciate that in the name of 'progress' we should all be able to (eventually) 'benefit' through improved technology however I cannot help but ponder over the time of year that these works are being carried out.

In you article it states that the work is hopefully going to take no longer than six weeks.

I may be a cynic, however I do wonder quite what the responses (or excuses maybe?) will be if there appears to be a reluctance to emerge from their leafless winter apparel of many of the trees lining the roads and streets currently under siege from the underground workings of this company.

I have a horrible feeling that people will have 'short memories' and will not be able to associate the damaged or maybe even the dead trees with these underground workings and trenches being ripped though roots of decade old trees.

We need the life benefits that trees provide to us on this over-polluted and abused planet of ours.

Can Omne confirm that they are not killing the trees, and if damage is inflicted?
