LANCASHIRE police are backing a trade union's campaign to highlight the role of traffic wardens.
Unison has launched the 'Safe Roads/Civil Streets' campaign is aimed at seeing wardens retained by the constabulary.
Ch Supt Russ Weaver of Lancashire police said: "We have worked very closely with Unison in looking at ways and means in which we can utilise the obvious strengths of our traffic warden colleagues.
"This is best illustrated in Lancaster where a group of wardens are now working as Community Safety Wardens in a pilot scheme that has attracted considerable interest, not least from the Home Office."
