GALES and storms have battered the district in what is the wettest February on record.
A 100 year-old beech tree in the grounds of St Lukes Parish Church, Slyne, came crashing down on Saturday morning.
No one was hurt but the tree crushed an iron gate and brought down another tree in the church grounds.
And on Wednesday the high tide battered Morecambe prom although flooding was localised.
Even higher tides are expected early next week although the high winds are set to die down.
