A FOOTBALL manager today said an arson attack on a club caravan could have spelled potential disaster for the team.
Brent Peters of Bacup FC in Cowtoot Lane, Bacup, said the blaze would have spread to the clubhouse if the wind had been blowing in a different direction.
He added that Bacup was "notoriously bad" for vandalism attacks.
"I don't think it's mindless vandalism," he said. "It seems somebody broke in ,then fired it."
The caravan, which was used as an office and to entertain visiting club directors, was gutted.
Mr Peters said it was impossible to tell what had been stolen.
He believes the attack at around midnight on Saturday could be linked to a nearby house fire on Gordon Street.
Police were investigating a fire at the unoccupied property at 3.45am on Sunday.
