WHILE I agree we should introduce more static and mobile cameras in an effort to reduce road accidents I feel we are entering a new era with zero tolerance now the order of the day.

However, I can see it causing all sorts of problems with the traffic flow if some common sense isn't used. For instance, when vehicles are proceeding in a 30mph zone on the outskirts of town and have to overtake parked vehicles they naturally have to increase speed momentarily, therefore, breaking the speed limit. Some may say this is an extreme case but with zero tolerance it really does happen, there are simply no excuses. A nonsense but true, because it happened to me.

Indeed, these new rules could see motorists erring on the slow side we all know what that causes. In the 1950s I drove a work's vehicle which had a cut-out fitted at 40mph, that was scary even then.

Moreover, having driven -- on a regular basis -- all over the country during my working life both accident free and with no speeding offences whatsoever. I feel many like-minded people should have some input and be consulted before changes are made. Unfortunately however, we are ignored and new measures are, as usual, taken by the faceless one's.

There is a difference between driving recklessly by speeding and driving sensibly -- it is an art! Let's keep it that way. Indeed, even 20mph -- in certain areas -- should be the allotted speed limit.
