AM I well out of date or are punks back in fashion?
I felt like a time traveller when I spotted the most amazing couple in a Bradshawgate charity shop this week. Both the man and woman were complete throwbacks to the heady days I missed while living abroad in 1977.
I could only read about their outlandish fashion sense and behaviour in the papers.
However, these two obviously respectable adults had high shocking pink mohican hair cuts, multi studded faces and clothes and stunning make-up.
They seemed very nice, but I have to admire their grit.
The first edition punks certainly stood out from the crowd, and my goodness those who have stuck with the style do even more so now. So much so that every eye in the shop was on their every move.
There's nothing wrong with being different, but I wouldn't like to be under such scrutiny.
Shortly after I had written this I discovered they've obviously never gone out of fashion. Notification of a Punk Jubilee (1976-79) hit my desk. It has been organised by Vic Gilmore to celebrate "Betty's 50 years and Punk's 25" at St Gregory's Social Club, Farnworth, the club used by Bolton comedian Peter Kay for his comedy series "Phoenix Nights".
