Leigh Soccer League: THE weather-delayed Round One tie of the Carl Brown Memorial Trophy finally went ahead with Higher Folds confirming they have rediscovered the top form which seemed to desert them before Christmas with a 2-1 home win over Three Crowns A.
Steve Ashbrooke put Folds in front on 25 minutes and Jody Holt adding the second 20 minutes into the second period.
Jamie Shepherd hit back two minutes from time but Fold managed to hold on.
In Division Two, Courts went joint top of the table on 39 points from 16 games played with a 4-0 home win over Fir Tree Rangers Reserves. Stuart Pickup had the home side going into the interval with a slender 1-0 lead but three goals at 10 minute intervals starting on the hour mark from Craig Sweeney, Matt Disley and Shaun Priest helped boost Courts, goal difference which could prove crucial in the final analysis.
This coming Saturday sees Division One champions Higher Folds set to come face to face in the Redwaters Coronation Cup quarter-final with the team looking almost certain to assume their title, Kersal Vale. There is also the one remaining Round Two tie to be staged between Rope and Anchor and Horns Inn on the same Saturday that Courts and Leigh Avenue contest a semi final.
Two quarter finals are set to be played, AFC Limelight against Moonraker in the Davenport Cup and Asda Golborne at home to Atherton Royal in the Sharman Cup.
