SO Lancashire County Council have confirmed that they are to increase Council Tax by 7.7 per cent, which means a rise of about £40 on 'B' and 'A.' In return, they are closing 26 old people's homes, some nursery schools are cutting subsidised buses (LET, February 16) and just for good measure are spending about £1million on a canteen which only serves some 13 people daily.
On top of this, the ruling cabinet, who hold all their meetings behind closed doors, have awarded themselves salaries of £26,000 each. Nice work if you get it.
