BOLTON boss Sam Allardyce has called on his players to be more adventurous ahead of tomorrow's relegation scrap with Rovers at the Reebok.
Wanderers chief Allardyce has bemoaned the lack of goals from his side as they fight for their Premiership lives.
But he hopes the likes of new signing Youri Djorkaeff will help to spark Wanderers' creative juices.
"That's something we've been talking about for a couple of weeks now," said Allardyce.
"We either attack well at one end and score two goals and then don't defend properly.
"Or we defend properly and don't score any goals at all.
"So we've got to bring the two together, starting against Blackburn tomorrow.
"The good thing is if we score one goal it now looks like it's going to bring us three points, which is crucial at this stage of the season because everyone wants to keep it tight.
"But we really should be getting forward more freely like we have done in games against Chelsea and Newcastle, in particular, and be a bit more adventurous when we have got the ball.
"Because, if I had to say there was a weak spot in Blackburn's make-up at the minute, then I'd say it's in defence rather than the front-line.
"Their frontline is very, very exciting in the shape of players like Andy Cole, Damien Duff, David Dunn, Keith Gillespie and either Matt Jansen or the new lad, Yordi.
"But they do perhaps look slightly vulnerable defensively."
Ironically, this time last year, the two clubs were locked in a scrap for promotion from Division One -- a battle which Rovers eventually won thanks in no small part to a 4-1 win at the Reebok.
This term, however, those roles have been reversed with Bolton adapting quicker to life in the top-flight and they currently hold a four point advantage.
"I don't the know full story in terms of whether or not Graeme has had more injury problems than me," said Allardyce.
"But maybe some of his players haven't felt up for it quite as much as my players.
"Or perhaps the strength in depth of his squad isn't as big as mine. I don't know.
"But, certainly, from the beginning we didn't have any injury problems whatsoever and we got off to a fantastic start which put a lot of self-belief into the players.
"And they still have that self-belief and that fight and determination to get themselves out of the situation they find themselves in.
"We've done enough not to be where we are now but we find ourselves in this position because we didn't win a game in 12.
"And it's the same for Blackburn.
"The only difference, perhaps, is they've not picked up quite as many draws in that time whereas we've been so close to making one point into three on so many occasions it's been frightening.
"And that's what we must continue to do.
"At the end of the day, if we can't win a game then we must make sure we don't lose it."
Wanderers go into the game knowing a victory would open up a yawning seven point gap between themselves and the bottom three.
And Allardyce would clearly love to put some daylight between his side and the dreaded dropzone going into the season's last two months.
"I'm sure that puts a bit more pressure on Blackburn than it does on us," said the Bolton boss. "When all is said and done, we are playing at home and we've got to make the most of that.
"But we are expecting a tough game, certainly with the extra confidence they'll have gained from winning the Worthington Cup and the performance they gave which I thought was magnificent.
"We are only a kick up the backside away from turning draws into victories now.
"And, hopefully, we can start by doing that tomorrow.
"There isn't a better place to start than winning two games on the trot at home."
