A FLEETWOOD-based folk music network is hoping it won't hit a low note when the Arts Council of England is reorganised this April.
Folkus, which runs workshops and supports concerts throughout the North West, has enough funding to see it through the spring.
But changes to the borders of the Arts Council's regions may mean an uncertain future for Folkus.
Chairman Alan Bell wrote to supporters recently and told them that from April 1 Cumbria will be moved from the Northern Arts region to North West Arts. He said: "North West Arts has traditionally channelled huge amounts of money to the major orchestras and theatres in the North West. Northern Arts on the other hand has supported small community projects.
"Consequently there is a possible clash of cultural and financial requirements. Many decisions have yet to be made regarding how North West Arts will cope with this change."
But although the long-term future for Folkus -- which began running workshops in 2000 -- is unsettled, Alan is hoping for a positive outcome.
He added: "We have applied for further grant aid to keep Folkus going until March 2003. From that time I would dearly like to have Folkus recognised as a division of North West Arts, dedicated to Folk Music."
