RESIDENTS across the county can rest assured as Lancashire Constabulary's domestic burglary campaign reports resounding success.

Operation Reassure ran across Lancashire from November 5 2001 until January 25 2002 and saw a two per cent reduction in domestic burglary for January -- which meant 250 less victims of crime in their own homes.

Some 3,400 people were arrested for burglary and other offences by officers working in all six divisions.

The majority of arrests were by detectives from the Major Crime Unit, but the campaign also included uniformed officers who supported divisions with high-visibility patrols.

Officers from the force's Mounted Branch also spent two weeks in each division.

Det Chief Supt Adrian McAllister, who led the operation, said: "Officers across the county have clearly demonstrated their commitment to targeting burglary and other types of crime that affect people's quality of life.

"The intelligence-led targeting tactics employed by Operation Reassure will still be used across Lancashire as the Constabulary continues to crackdown on domestic burglary and associated offences.

"The message is clear -- we will not tolerate this type of crime in Lancashire and we will put to use all our techniques and powers to detect and arrest those responsible.

"We appreciated the help and support from the public and other organisations during Operation Reassure, not just those who gave up their own time, but also those people who contacted the police with vital information.

"We would seek to build on this during our continued crackdown and would urge people to contact police officers directly or Crimestoppers on (0800) 555-111 with information.
