BELIEVE it or not but it's nearly 30 years since a group of brightly coloured rock and roll juveniles wowed the judges on New Faces -- the Pop Idol of its day -- and went on to top the charts.
They've been touring ever since and soon Showaddywaddy will be bringing their unique new concept show to Blackburn.
Hey Rock and Roll features over 50 classic rock 'n' roll songs -- including, of course, a number of the group's own hits such as Under the Moon of Love -- and will have King George's Hall, Blackburn, rocking on Friday, March 15.
Dave Bartram, the group's charismatic lead singer, said: "This show's a bit of a departure for us. It charts 50 years of rock 'n' roll from its early days to the present.
"It's great for us as it gives us the chance to do some of the greatest songs ever recorded."
The stage show features dancers, an all-girl trio who feature songs by the Ronettes and the Chiffons and 'a cheesy DJ'.
"He's the one who holds the thing together," said Bartram.
Hey Rock and Roll is touring the country and has been receiving rave reviews.
"The reaction we've been getting has been excellent," said Bartram. "It's interesting for us as it allows us to do songs we don't normally do and to show our versatility. We've also been doing straight concert dates too so one night we'll be doing out normal set and the next it's this fast moving show with costume changes and dancers."
In an era when pop stars seem to last a matter of weeks, Showaddywaddy continue to win over audiences.
"For the past couple of years we have been getting more and more kids coming along. Perhaps they are disenchanted with all these boy and girl bands. It looks like retro has become fashionable" laughed Bartram.
