JOHN Duffy is unlikely to be one of the ex-Leigh 'reception committee' lying in wait for Leigh Centurions when they visit Chorley Lynx tomorrow.
Scrum-half Duffy is reported to want to return to Hilton Park after only a handful of games for the NFP strugglers.
Duffy, a Scottish international, left Leigh in the off-season after failing to agree terms. Shortly afterwards he joined the contingent who had exchanged Hilton Park for Victory Park.
Now, according to the teamtalk.com website, Duffy is angling for a return to the Centurions.
He reportedly stunned Lynx officials late last week when he asked to be released from his contract, having said he no longer wished to 'carry' the rest of the team. Duffy had been appointed club captain at Chorley and his form was recognised by the fans who voted him player of the month.
Lynx director Peter Farrell who was instrumental in persuading Duffy to move to Chorley has reportedly told the player that if he wants to find another club they will have to pay for him.
Unless the situation is resolved, it's unlikely Duffy will be in the Chorley side this weekend.
But there will be plenty of other familiar faces in the Lynx side.
Four of last season's successful Leigh squad - Tim Street, Martin Roden, Saf Patel and Michael Watts - are set to figure against their old side with another Centurions' old boy, prop Andy Grundy, also recently having joined Chorley.
Leigh coach Paul Terzis said he had not spoken to Duffy about a return and no move was iminent.
"John's a good player, we know that from last year. But at the moment a move back is not going to happen. But the door is never closed," he said.
Sunday's intriguing game at Victory Park won't see Street and Vila Matautia going head to head in a battle of the front row hard men.
Matautia is one of three players Terzis has given the week off while they nurse minor injuries. Others missing will be Chris Morley and Jon Roper.
Matautia aggravated a minor thigh strain in the mud against Whivehaven last week while Morley (ankle) and Roper (shoulder) are under treatment.
But back into the squad come Eric Andrews and Phil Kendrick while new recruit Simon Knox will make his debut off the bench.
Andrews has been missing for two weeks with a nasty facial injury while Kendrick returns after ankle ligament trouble.
Also close to make their comebacks are Dave Whittle and Dave Ingram. Prop Whittle has not figured since badly damaging a calf muscle back in December while Ingram tore a hamstring five weeks ago.
Terzis admits Leigh must be on their guard at Chorley. "They've beaten Whitehaven this season, so are no mugs.
"The large number of former Leigh players in the side will add extra spice. Those players will be out to prove a point, but so will the players we brought in to replace them."
