ABOUT 40 people interested in environmental issues enjoyed the chance to discuss Burnley's draft local plan at a workshop organised by the Sustainability Action Partnership.

The local plan looks at all planning issues about the future use of land in the borough in the next ten years.

Sustainability Action Partnership is an organisation between the Lancashire Wildlife Trust and the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers.

Spokesperson Kim Coverdale said: "It was well attended with about 40, a mixture of individuals and others representing groups including the ramblers and the Pennine Paths groups."

The workshop/forum was addressed by representatives of Planning Aid, Burnley Council and Lancashire Wildlife Trust.

Kim said: "The people who attended will now go away and have a good look at the plans to see if there is anything they want to object to or indeed support."

She said it represented a chance to learn how to influence the way Burnley develops over the next ten years.

Kim said: "The Local Plan is an extremely important document that affects people who live and work in Burnley.

"Once the Plan is adopted it is very difficult to change so it is very important for local people to be involved."

The event was held at the East Lancashire voluntary sector resource centre, Yorkshire Street, Burnley. People have until April 5 to comment on the Plan.
