A MAN who regularly puts out dustbins, cleans windows and has even turned his hand to decorating was today described as the best neighbour in Burnley and said: "I like to help out."
Christopher Nield, 36, of Arley Gardens, Burnley, was officially recognised for his work when landlord B and N Housing presented him with a Good Neighbour Award.
Neighbours who nominated Chris were quick to offer their praise. Hilda Hall, who lives nearby in Arley Gardens, said: "Chris is a good and kind man who will help anyone.
"He was a great help when I moved into my apartment.
"I wanted to paint the stairs and landing but I didn't know how I was going to manage it.
"In the end I needn't have worried, because Chris was only too happy to do it for me." Another local resident, Betty Hill, described how he shops for her and has checked up on her since she suffered a stroke.
She said: "Chris calls on me morning and evening, just to check everything is OK.
"He does my shopping for me and I know he is always there if I ever need him."
Other good deeds numbered among Chris' chores include cleaning windows and porches in the housing association complex, putting out dustbins and generally keeping the area clean and tidy.
Chris collected his award, a glass decanter with matching glasses, during a presentation made by B and N Housing tenancy services officer Bernadette Morris.
She said: "I am delighted that Chris has been chosen to receive an award. He is a real ambassador and determined to do his bit to make sure Arley Gardens is a nice place to live."
Chris said: "It's just me being me really. I like to help out my neighbours and make sure that new people are made welcome."
