REGARDING the proposals for properties in Darwen Street, Blackburn, to be turned into a club and restaurant (LET, February 12).
Cathedral officials are said to be against this on the grounds of noise and late drinking in the already over-catered vicinity.
It's as well to remember that in the past, there were nine hostelries in close proximity to the Cathedral -- namely, the Old Bull, Munroe's Vaults, The County Hotel, The Castle, White Bull, the Adelphi, Golden Lion, Dun Horse and Sames's Vaults.
Of course, behavioural standards are far worse now than then; and there wasn't a drug culture as of now.
D BULLEN (Mr), Albany Road, Blackburn.
