Chorley Lynx 18, Leigh Centurions 62 by Mike Hulme

THE Centurions will be watching TV today, reviewing the incident which left up and coming scrum-half Lee Sanderson with a badly broken jaw.

If the video shows any sign of foul play, Leigh will have no hesitation in citing the Chorley player involved.

"Lee's jaw is broken in two places," confirmed Centurions' coach Paul Terzis. "From my point in the stand I didn't have a clear view, but the rest of the players are adamant that the Chorley player went into the tackle leading with his elbow or forearm.

"If the video shows foul play, we will go through the appropriate channels and cite the player concerned."

Sanderson's second half injury took some of the gloss off Leigh's high-scoring win in which the 10 tries were shared by just four players.

Winger Chris Irwin showed the sort of finishing power that first brought him to Leigh's attention, the ex-Wigan reserve crossing four times.

Another former Wigan reserve grader, second row Andy Isherwood, powered in for another impressive hat-trick and was only denied a fourth by Chorley's former Leigh full-back Michael Watts.

Centre Paul Anderson also collected a treble when ace try poacher Neil Turley took his season's tally to 12 with another couple. Turley also landed seven goals for a points haul of 22.

While Leigh's attack function much smoother than of late, the worrying defensive lapses still remain. They let Chorley in for three soft tries, two of them coming from former Leigh players.

Chris Causey stretched out of some weak tackling for the first and Saf Patel robbed Eric Andrews to sail in for another. Chorley's other try came from busy hooker Matt Bellamy.

"Chorley were competitive, they would be with five ex-Leigh players in the side, but they couldn't live with our pace and power," added Terzis.

"I don't think Chorley played too badly, we were just on top of our game attack-wise and deserved to win in the manner we did."
