Wycombe 0 Bury 2 by Phil Thorp

THE Shakers put in arguably their best performance of the season to bring home three crucial points from Adams Park.

Two second half goals from Gareth Seddon and Michael Nelson earned Andy Preece's men a crucial three points that sets them up for what is the most important two weeks in the club's history.

If the administrators brought in to oversee the survival of the club are looking to offload a player or two to bring in some much needed capital, then there were 11 good reasons why Bury will see the season out and go on to a positive new dawn. From stand-in keeper Glyn Garner at number one to evergreen number 11 Paul Reid, who just edged the man of the match accolade, there were magnificent performances all over the park.

Even Chairboys' manager Laurie Sanchez had nothing but praise for the Shakers despite subjecting him and his side to their third consecutive home defeat.

"There was only one team going to win that game - and it wasn't us, we were just outfought" he said. I said to my assistant Terry Gibson at half time if Bury were to score we'd be in trouble and that's just how it worked out."

With a full first team missing through injury and suspension Andy Preece's men made a mockery of Wycombe's play-off hopes.

They edged a first half that was relatively even then stepped it up in the second and could have won by four or five with a bit more luck in front of goal.

The deadlock was broken after 53 minutes when Martyn Forrest played a fine ball into the path of Lee Connell, who stormed down the right flank brushing off a couple of challenges and delivered a great cross into the box that was bundled over the line by Seddon with perhaps a little help from Wanderers' Mark Rogers!

For some reason the goal seemed to give the home side a lift and they looked dangerous for a spell but the wind was well and truly taken out of their sails nine minutes later when Michael Nelson cracked home a low drive after the Wycombe defence failed to deal with a David Borley corner.

Boss Andy Preece enthused: "We started the game right and I thought it was a complete performance.

"If we can get 11 players turning in displays like that there is no team in the division that can stop us.

"People seem to forget about the injuries we have had this season with had 10 players missing though injury and two suspensions today."
