UNTIL the appearance of your photograph (LET, January 31) showing how the work on Church Street was progressing, readers not residing in Blackburn, only having "artists impressions" on which to form an opinion, could have been forgiven for wondering what I and several other correspondents have been complaining about.
Some eight months after work started, all we have, in effect, is imported cobblestones and kerbs having been laid and now a whole lot of granite balls!
The Waterloo Pavilions, having had over £1million allocated from Heritage Lottery funds and despite being the main focus for the regeneration of Church Street, are still in the same derelict state that they have been in for the last 15 years.
Work on these properties cannot now be started until a professional, archaeological photographic survey is carried out!
The areas for pavement cafes, which are apparently to be encouraged to open in the summer, will have to be defined by the council, as one of the few pavement areas, adjacent to property likely to benefit from such a venture, had the opportunity denied, when a post box, steel and timber bench, two steel bollards, a 3-metre high directional signpost and a tree were installed!
