LEIGH RMI's Ged Kielty fired the home side to victory with an 80th minute goal against Stalybridge Celtic.
RMI left Bower Fold with all the points last week to end Celtic's five-match winning run and, since then, Stalybridge's fortunes have taken another nosedive with a 2-0 defeat to Southport.
In contrast, Leigh moved seven points clear of danger with their point at Chester and they will be well pleased with this result.
Speaking before the game manager Steve Waywell said: "Stalybridge will be a different proposition to last week.
"They got slated for the way that they played against us and they are still in quite a bit of trouble in the league so it is important for us to focus on the task in hand to try and get ourselves up to our 50-point target.
"I expect their passing to be better and I think that they will be a bit more physical so we will have to be on top of our game to get a point."
Leigh are on the crest of a wave after a string of good results in the league have guided them gradually away from the bottom three.
They remain unbeaten in the league since January 5 when they were humiliated 5-0 at Southport's Haig Avenue.
