BURNLEY fans who booed their team off against Norwich at the weekend should thank their lucky stars that they don't follow the Saddlers.
If you take Stockport County out of the equation, no one is struggling more than tonight's opponents.
With just three points from the last six games and only three wins in the last 19 in the league, another rapid return to the second division is looking on the cards as they are currently second from bottom.
The current struggles also suggest that the board's controversial decision to sack inspirational manager Ray Graydon may have back-fired.
The new man at the helm, former Wolves boss Colin Lee, could not have got his Walsall career off to a better start.
An FA Cup shock at Charlton was followed by a league defeat of Wimbledon and suddenly the fans, who had criticised the dismissal of the man who had won two promotions in three years, were dreaming of a great escape.
The last time Graydon had brought them up to the first division they had gone straight back down and it was the fear of doing so again that prompted the board to act.
But that opening win double has not been followed up despite the efforts of Lee to bring in fresh faces in the fight against the drop.
Three of his new recruits have made the short trip from Midlands neighbours Birmingham City with David Holdsworth, Martin O'Connor and Marcelo all being brought in.
Two other new faces are midfielder Steve Corica, who worked with Lee at both Wolves and Leicester, and on-loan defender Greg Shields who has struggled to force his way in to Alan Curbishley's Charlton Athletic side.
In addition Portuguese star Jorge Leitao has been given a greater role to play and he is the club's top scorer, albeit with only five goals.
