WORLD DJ day is being supported by local music enthusiasts this weekend in a bid to raise money for charity.

And the event worldwide is said to be the first of its kind to be organised on this scale.

DJ Thomas Sutherland, of Townley Avenue, Accrington, has organised a marathon gig at Bar Large, Accrington, for Saturday from 3.30pm.

The room underneath the Bees Knees pub has been donated free of charge and more than 200 people are expected to support them through the day.

Five DJ's in all will be performing to raise money for the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy charity which helps children with disabilities enjoy music and use music in therapy.

Thomas said: "I can't wait for the event because you feel like your part of something bigger. The high point of the event is Saturday but things will be going on all week. I just think it's a really good idea."

Local DJ Danny Gardner will also be playing a set of US house and progressive beats through the evening.

World DJ day has been backed nationally by Radio One, MTV and Galaxy, with DJ's such as Paul Oakenfold, Seb Fontaine and Sasha in the first event of its kind ever.

Tony Price, chairman of World DJ day, said: "I truly believe we are about to tap in to the greatest global charity event in history."
