AT first glance you may just think it's a case of the Wrigley Head Morris Dancers being too big for their breeches.
But a closer inspection shows that the only friction among the 30-strong Darwen-based troupe is just down to nearly two decades of vigorous dancing.
Now the group has said enough is enough to the many attempts to repair their well-worn trousers.
And the search is on to find a whizz on the sewing machine to whip 20 metres of super-strength velvet into brand new breeches in time for their first performance of the morris dancing season, which starts at Easter.
Secretary Derek Humphreys, of Green Lowe Farm, Darwen, said: "Our breeches are well and truly worn out after years of wear and tear and we are desperate for new pairs in time for the new season which begins later this month.
"We have ordered 20 metres of the finest upholstered velvet from a firm in Manchester, which should last us for a good few years to come, but we need someone who is willing to make us up a few pairs at an economical price.
"We have 30 members, but not all of their breeches are as worn out as some.
"We just need to replace as many pairs as we can from the material we have."
The Wrigley Head Morris Dancers hail from Failsworth near Oldham, but most of its members now from the Darwen area.
The side performs a traditional North West clog dance, which originates from the Lancashire mill towns, at around 12 major festivals a year, including one annual performance in Darwen, and has enjoyed trips to Holland, France and Belgium to perform.
Derek explained: "The Wrigley Head group dates back to the Industrial Revolution and we principally dance the 'rantz' or 'polka' steps.
"I think we are probably the only side still performing in this style in the area."
Practice sessions for the season's first event of the season will begin in a few weeks time, so the heat is on to stop the side from feeling the chill.
The group will then practice for and perform at a series of events around the country until the season ends around harvest time.
When not practising, several Darwen-based members of the side enjoy spending time on their canal barges.
The Wrigley Head Morris Dancers welcomes new members and also teaches people the tricks of the trade.
