AFTER just two games in three months our quest to reach the Blackburn Combination Premier League finally cranked back into life last Saturday with a resounding victory against Akzo Nobel.
Strangely the game was staged at the Anchor Ground which seemed to have attracted every ounce of mud in Lancashire.
The four teams directly below us in the Second Division all faced each other with Alex Hotel Reserves and Oak Tree defeating Marleys and Punch Hotel respectively.
Whilst the league is our priority we are still in two Cup competitions. After three consecutive away draws in the Northern Cup we had hoped for a home tie in the last 16 so a trip to face Penlake of St Helens, probably the furthest away tie we could have drawn, was not what the doctor ordered.
Let's hope they are friendlier than the Scousers we met in the last round.
In the League Cup semi-final we face the winners of Alex Hotel v Brinscall. Rumour has it that yet again, the finalists won't be afforded the opportunity to step out at Ewood as the club apparently needs a month to prepare for a pop concert.
Has anyone at Ewood ever considered the positive publicity they would glean from a "Jack Walker Finals Weekend" staging perhaps a dozen local finals over one weekend and passing the gate money to a local charity.
If not then has anyone got the telephone number for Deepdale or Turf Moor.
Surely it's not asking too much for a club that claims to be a supporter of the local community to give something back to it. Not all of us want to be deafened by tuneless teenagers.
